Once we send root access, you are responsible for the OS and software health of the box.
As of the moment we SEND not the moment you state you used or received access.
We will still maintain hardware (if we were before), but any software or OS revisions/repairs/checks as of the moment of transmission of direct file system access will become your team's responsibility.
We charge hourly for any work on a system after root level access is granted, regardless of the nature or cause, unless the problem is Hardware based. If you are not prepared to maintain the OS and software (or pay us to do so, which is no longer free), do not purchase this item.
This specifically applies to "we didn't do anything, all we did is log in!" as well as "but we have not actually used the password yet, we got it but we never logged in."
The reason for this, of course, is to remove any temptation for a technician to hide their tracks because it will not matter, we'll be charging for the service anyway ... thus avoiding the likelihood of more damage from any possible attempted coverup.
If you have a specific password you would like set, please include it in your purchase notes. This also applies to password reset requests (the same procedure must be followed).
We will not set the password to something received in email, only from a request here or a request in a support ticket after this purchase.
We will not set the password to something "too simple" (ie: "vicidial" or "password" or "1234" or "bob"). If a password request is too simple, we will generate a strong password and use that instead and send it to you or post it in your ticket.
It is not possible to use any existing account balance on this item. This item requires the account-owner to commit to a serious change in the management of this system and as such will require both logging in and using a payment method to assure the account owner is involved in this process.
As this is not something we can "undo" after it has been done (even if there is a misunderstanding), we must take all possible precautions to avoid any misunderstanding. As such, it is necessary to put a note in the comment of the purchase stating "I am (or we are) prepared to accept OS and Software health of the box as of the moment the password is sent to us. Please send via email to ______".
It is not usually necessary to purchase this item when having your server shipped to you as we will automatically give you root (and all other) access along with the rest of your credentials. This is an "add-on" for a server already in our colocation facility.
It is also a good idea to change the root password immediately upon first login. Just to be sure (we have keyed access, and do not require a password).
If you do not put that note in the comment during purchase, we will verify after the purchase.
